Disfranchisement as an Element of Marginalization Process in the Society of the 1920-1930s through the Destinies of Tobolsk City and Tobolsk District Residents (Historical and Anthropological Aspect)

Abstract. The paper aims to identify specificity of interaction of power and society in local socio-political practices. The study is based on regional material, the author considers the problem of disfranchisement of Tobolsk city and Tobolsk district residents, describes the campaign to restore their electoral rights. The article analyses rehabilitation measures, emotional responses, forms of reflection regarding a non-voter’s status. Scientific originality of the study is conditioned by the fact that for the first time the influence of state-sanctioned discriminatory measures on non-voters’ psychological health is analysed from the viewpoint of historical anthropology and social psychology. The research findings are as follows: the author shows that disfranchisement led to professional disqualification, marginalization, destructive changes in an individual’s psychological state and social behaviour.
