Abstract. The article aims to examine repetition as one of the systemic principles of the Renaissance music. The author identifies types of musical repetition, shows that they are determined by composers’ tendency to stick to a particular acoustic model. Dependence of musical repetition on the verbal text structure is revealed, composers’ adherence to rational segmentation techniques is mentioned. Scientific originality of the study involves introducing the cognitive-psychological component in the existing methodlogy for description and analysis of repetition. By the example of the Renaissance music, the author proves that repetition as a principle of musical thinking leads to immediate renewal of musical material, promotes manifestation of new emotional and meaningful features of a musical composition.
