Evolution of Notions of Determinism and Causality in Science and Culture

Abstract. The article considers principles of determinism and causality, foundations of any scientific paradigm. Contribution of modern scientific thought, especially synergetics and post-modernistic thinking, to understanding of determinism and causality is revealed. Special attention is paid to the relevant methodological problem of differentiating causal and non-causal determinism. The paper argues that discourses on non-causal determination hardly deny universality of causal determinism as a methodological basis of any scientific worldview.
