Abstract. The paper aims to analyse specificity of sound as an element of audial thinking and to show how it differs from sound as a physical phenomenon. Since features of audial thinking manifest themselves in sign systems, the research objective includes identifying how the process of audial thinking is objectified in the sign form. It is shown that meaningful filling is possible only within a certain structure, the primary element of which is intonation complex. The findings indicate that musical creativity represented by signs forms and transforms audial mental structures, i.e. the musical mental image is generated simultaneously with the creation of intentional objects and intonation complexes in the process of form-generation and transforms simultaneously with this process.
