Formation and Development of Gold-Mining Industry in Mountain Altai in 1935-1941

Abstract. The article considers the problem of formation and development of gold-mining industry in Mountain Altai in the years of the second and third five-year-plans (1935-1941). It is shown that gold-mining in the region was carried out by scattered prospectors’ artels. The author analyses problems when creating the industry material and technical basis, which were conditioned by geographical remoteness and poor development of gold-bearing areas. The conclusion is made that in the mentioned period, the staff of professional workers was formed and the staff replenishment system was established.
