Abstract. The article draws a parallel between anomie and hedonism. Anomie leads to the individual’s spiritual dependence (addiction) and self-destructive behaviour. It is expressed in the cult of sensual pleasures and short life cycles, and therefore peculiarly compensates and replaces lack of value integration of the individual. The analysis of empirical studies on mortality and corruption has allowed the author to describe hedonistic nature of anomie. According to I. Berlin, anomie is negative freedom, which leads to social atomization and destruction of communal ties.
