World War I in Peripheral Mirror of History: Perception of War by Dagestan Oblast Population

Abstract. The study aims to show, on the basis of archival documents and periodical materials, dynamics of true attitude and perception of war by different groups of Dagestan society. The article considers psychophysiological perception of war in Dagestan Oblast population’s daily life. Scientific novelty of the work combines microhistory, anthropology and history of everyday life, the basis for which resides in unpublished sources, recollections of eyewitnesses of the process, as well as in recent developments made by researchers studying the region. The attained results have shown evolution in perception of war and everything related to it by Dagestan Oblast’s population. Different social groups’ worldview shifted from patriotism to disappointment, then to exasperation, criticism of the government and its actions intensified.
