History of Building the First Women’s Gymnasium in the City of Chita

Abstract. The study aims to shed light on the history of building the First Women’s Gymnasium as an important element of Chita’s architectural look in the early XX century. The article provides a description of the construction works carried out on the gymnasium building in 1907-1909, characterises the project and the bill of quantities, items of the contract with the builder, certificates of completion of the constructed building, etc. Scientific novelty of the article lies in conducting a comprehensive study of the building design, construction techniques and stages of the First Women’s Gymnasium. As a result of the study of one particular gymnasium, specific nature of construction organisation and techniques as applied to buildings of secondary education institutions, which would end up defining Chita’s look in the early XX century, is shown.
