Abstract. The paper aims to reveal specificity of the musical characteristic of "Christmas Eve" personages - Devil, Solokha, Patsyuk and Sexton. The article identifies prosodic means and leitmotifs used to characterize carnival culture representatives, examines techniques of diminishment, such as musical parody, genre and prosodic transformation. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the mentioned personages are for the first time considered as representatives of the carnival tradition. The research findings are as follows: the author proves that the personages’ musical characteristics indicate their belonging to folk laughing culture; their functions are analogous to carnival participants.
