Problems of the Chinese Piano Education

Abstract. The paper reveals problems of pianists’ professional training in musical educational institutions in China. The article provides a brief survey of piano education development, analyses the difficulties students come across in the process of training. Among problems of piano education, the author mentions the following ones: methodological drawbacks, shortcomings in teaching staff training, outdated repertoires, curricula, which do not satisfy the principle of the harmonious personality development. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that problems of pianists’ professional training have not been previously investigated in full detail. The research findings are as follows: the author proves that the Chinese piano education needs reforms aimed at improving the quality of students’ professional training.
