History of the Ural Regional Statistical Committee: Specificity of Formation and Basic Activity Trends at the End of the XIX - the Beginning of the XX Century

Abstract. The paper aims to identify the role of the regional statistical centre in organizing statistical surveys aimed to obtain statistical data required for central and local authorities. Scientific originality of the study involves a systemic description of the Ural Regional Statistical Committee’s activity trends in the context of imperial policy in remote ethnic areas. The research findings are as follows: the author shows that establishment of a statistical committee enabled regular collection of data on regional economy and laid a foundation for regional studies development.
