Abstract. The article considers the expression of the generalized philosophical image of science in various periods of its development through the key metaphors used by philosophers to describe scientific cognition. The authors believe that this way it is possible to trace both the change in the character of science itself during the transition from the classical to the non-classical stage of its development, and the change in the paradigm of philosophy of science. The main lines of changes are transitions from reality reflection metaphors to metaphors of new reality construction and from free game metaphors to metaphors of work carried out in the organizational forms of production activity.
