"MAYAK KOMMUNY (LIGHTHOUSE OF COMMUNE)" NEWSPAPER AS A SOURCE ON HISTORY OF PUBLIC EDUCATION IN SEVASTOPOL IN THE YEARS OF THE SOVIET POWER FORMATION

Abstract. The article for the first time analyses "Mayak Kommuny (Lighthouse of Commune)" newspaper publications dedicated to the formation of the Soviet educational system in Sevastopol in the 1920s. The author considers the results of the educational workers’ conferences, examines the forms, methods, content of educational process, proceedings of congresses of Public Education Departments, statistical data on the school system in the city and on the periphery. The analysis of the newspaper publications indicates that the local authorities paid special attention to the issue of creating a new type of school under the complicated conditions of the Soviet power formation. The value of the mentioned print media as a historical source is identified.
