APPROACHES TO INTERPRETING BEAUTY AND HARMONY IN MODERN BELL-RINGING ART

Abstract. The article focuses on the notions "bell-ringing", "church bell-ringing", "Orthodox bell-ringing". The purpose of the study is to consider this musical phenomenon as sounds saturated with a special symbolic meaning tracking it at different levels of the tradition: church bells - Orthodox bells. The integrated approach to available materials was chosen as the research methodology, which allows considering the sound characteristics of the bells from the point of view of the formation of their musical-figurative significance. Scientific originality of the study includes the development of methodological approaches to identifying the peculiarities of the traditional tonality of bells, beaters and clappers. Analysing the Russian bell-ringing the author concludes on the peculiarities of their functioning in modern culture considering transformations in the synchronic and diachronic aspects and taking into account the factor of a listener’s perception.
