MUGHAM AND ASHIG ART IN THE AZERBAIJANI POETRY OF THE XIX-XX CENTURIES

Abstract. UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List includes the phenomena of the Azerbaijani folk music. Being emblematic for the Azerbaijani culture, they are represented in literature. The article examines the peculiarities of the representation of the Azerbaijani mugham images and Ashig musical art in the poetry of the XIX-XX centuries. The pieces of poetry are provided in the original language with parallel word-for-word translation into Russian, so the Russian readers for the first time can grasp their exact meaning (without distortions inevitable in poetical translation). The specificity of the music theme in the Azerbaijani poetry is described.
