Abstract. The article deals with the history of the emergence and development of the Mongolian lingering song, its genre varieties and characteristics. The focus is on the periodization, distribution and existence of the lingering song, in which characteristic features gradually crystallized. Over time, the lingering song took the lead in the traditional Mongolian culture. The authors emphasize its special genres - bucolics and changdao, - which reached their highest peak in Mongolia. The significance of steppe bucolic songs and changdao songs is immense - they influenced the Mongolian composers’ classical works to a certain extent.
