Abstract. The article tackles the problem of folkloric reinterpretation of the Great Patriotic War songs created by professional poets and composers. The study focuses on justifying the ways and means of folklorization of V. Dykhovichnyi’s and N. Bogoslovsky’s song "Soldier’s Waltz", which became popular under the name "It’s a long time since I saw my girlfriend". A comprehensive analysis of the prototype and its folkloric versions allows the researcher to conclude that the long-term existence of the author’s song among creative folk performers inspired the transformation of the ideological and figurative basis of the original. The melody transformation is motivated by aspiration to acquire natural logic, simplicity and laconism of prosodic expression of meaningful subtexts.
