LENINGRAD ORPHANAGES IN THE KUBAN REGION IN 1942-1943

Abstract. The article deals with the evacuation process of street children from the besieged city of Leningrad to Krasnodar Krai and the situation with orphanages during fascist occupation in the south of the country. The authors, on the basis of the analysis of the registration cards data of the inmates from Leningrad orphanages, have identified the number of the evacuees and their places of location in the Kuban region. It is noted that Leningrad children were settled mainly in the stanitsas of Otradnensky district. It is concluded that thanks to the evacuation, as well as to the heroic feat of the orphanages’ employees and local residents, most of the young Leningraders were saved.
