MARIUS VON MAYENBURG’S PROVOCATIVE DRAMATURGY STAGED BY MODERN PETERSBURG THEATRES

Abstract. The article examines the poorly investigated in the theatre studies experience of staging the plays by the German dramatist Marius von Mayenburg on Petersburg stage by the example of three productions: "The Stone" (Theatre on Vasilevsky), "The Ugly One" (Theater of Generations) and "Martyr" (students of the Department of Theatrical Art of Saint Petersburg University). Relying on critical surveys, scientific articles of the Russian literary critics and his personal experience of staging Mayenburg’s play the researcher characterizes each performance, analyzes different aspects of these productions in the context of the dramatist’s poetics, structural and linguistic peculiarities of his plays. The paper considers the issues of "transferring" the German author’s problematics on the Russian stage.
