Abstract. The article examines Protestantism as the religious basis of the political ethos of the American society. The idea of predestination, which is fundamental in the Calvinist version of Protestantism, is reflected not only in interpersonal relations, but also in the US foreign-policy activities that treat selectively other countries and peoples. In order to explain many of the US actions in the international arena, it is necessary to proceed from this determination of its national and political ethos, and Protestantism as one of its fundamental elements.
