SUGGESTIVE ART: GRAPHIC WORKS OF ODILON REDON AND ALIKHAN TOKAEV

Abstract. The article is devoted to studying the graphic works of the French symbolist painter Odilon Redon (1840-1916) and the Ossetian symbolist poet Alikhan Inusovich Tokaev (1893-1920). In particular, the author examines the series of charcoal drawings, Redon’s lithography and drawings in Tokaev’s rough notebooks. The paper identifies the similarity of the painters’ images and phantasies, analyzes in detail the pictures. The findings justify the following conclusions: both artists have similar graphical worlds, common esthetic ideals and created a special art - suggestive. For the first time in art criticism the author appeals to the graphical heritage of the Ossetian poet and dramatist A. Tokaev and provides the comparative analysis of O. Redon’s and A. I. Tokaev’s creative work.
