THE TATARS’ EMIGRATION TO NORTHWESTERN CHINA: CAUSES AND PERIODIZATION

Abstract. The Tatars living in Northwestern China are the smallest nation in the region. Researchers have been interested in the history of this group emergence in the state for a long time, as the Tatars’ emigration occurred against the background of various political events, and the process took place in several stages. As a result, the author reveals the periods of the Tatar people’s settlement within the territory of the present Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China. Also, the paper characterizes briefly each period of the emigration.
