"INTELLECTUALIZED LYRICS" IN CLASSICAL PIANISM OF THE XX CENTURY (BY THE EXAMPLE OF FUGA IN F FROM "LUDUS TONALIS" BY P. HINDEMITH)

Abstract. In the article, by the example of Fuga in F from P. Hindemith’s piano cycle "Ludus tonalis", the phenomenon of "intellectualized lyrics", which, according to the author’s opinion, is a key to understanding the very essence of the classical pianism of the XX century, is commented. The author opposes the pianistic interpretation of Hindemith’s polyphonic music as an entirely rational one, excluding the manifestation of a real feeling. The hypothesis that the pianist’s psychological mood to identify the interval semantics of the Fuga expands the possibilities of interpretation by introducing subjectivity into the composer’s extremely objective text without disturbing his intention is formulated.
