GIFT AND COMMODITY AS A THING’S SYMBOLIC MODIFICATIONS: ONTOLOGICAL ASPECT

Abstract. The article considers a thing as a connecting element in the relationship between people. In this perspective, it becomes a part of the symbolic space, where it appears in two modes: as a gift and as a commodity. The thing-gift and thing-commodity reveal such ontological characteristic of reality as an exchange, in which the connection between the eidetic and phenomenal worlds is carried out. The specificity of modern social relations, expressed in the exchange of goods, is the transformation of mass commodities-things into brands, which, in fact, is an analogue of the platonic procedure of joining things to ideas.
