ETHNO-NATIONAL ELITE OF GORNY ALTAI: PROBLEM OF FORMING HISTORICAL MEMORY OF ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY (1917-1918)

Abstract. Analysing the social discourse of Gorny Altai the paper identifies the conceptions of ethno-national elite concerning the developmental trends of aboriginal society and the elements constituting the basis of the Altaians’ identity. The author examines the work of Gorny Altai Duma members to form ethno-national ideology; the approaches to aboriginal history formulated by the local self-government bodies represent the conceptions of ethno-national elite regarding the Altaians’ sociocultural development and formation of doctrines associated with the concept HERITAGE.
