ETHNIC STEREOTYPES ROLE IN THE PROCESS OF INTER-ETHNIC INTERACTION (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE UDMURT ETHNOS)

Abstract. In the article, the Udmurts’ auto- and hetero-stereotyped ideas are revealed, and their formation and influence on the choice of the behaviour strategy in the process of intra- and inter-ethnic communication are analysed. The authors note that as a result of inter-ethnic interaction by these people, an average type of communicative behaviour, acceptable for the majority, and characterized by restraint, closeness, and mildly expressed emotionality, has been worked out. However, intensified migration movements in recent years and acceleration of assimilation trends require the development of new communication strategies.
