Methodological foundations for teaching students to use the WEATHER concept in the process of foreign language communication (by the example of a language university)

Abstract. The paper focuses on integrating knowledge and skills related to concept manipulation into the foreign language training process for students specializing in languages. The work provides a definition of the notion of “concept” and examines the linguocultural concept WEATHER, reflecting the national specificity of the English people. This concept plays a significant role in people’s lives and is part of the national-cultural component of communication. The research aims to provide theoretical justification for the inclusion of concepts in the language training process for students specializing in languages (using the example of the English linguocultural concept WEATHER). The scientific novelty of the research lies in proving the necessity of using concepts in preparing students for adequate intercultural communication and in developing stages for introducing students specializing in languages to concepts in foreign language practice classes. As a result of the research, 4 stages of practical work with concepts in foreign language classes with students specializing in languages were developed and described, using the example of the WEATHER concept. The significance of the concept in linguodidactics was demonstrated in connection with the possibility of using it to introduce students to foreign culture and to foster a tolerant attitude towards cultural differences through understanding cultural features and their linguistic explication.
