Using the Capabilities of LMS Canvas in the Point-Rating System Implementation (by the Material of the Course “Russian Language and Culture of Speech”)

Abstract. The aim of the study is to substantiate the effectiveness of the electronic learning management system (Learning Management System - LMS) Canvas in the framework of the point-rating system operating at the National Research Technological University “MISIS”, by the material of the academic discipline “Russian Language and Culture of Speech”. The article describes the principles of organizing the point-rating system of the university in general and the Department of Foreign Languages and Communication Technologies in particular, which implements the training program for linguists, the rules for scoring, the features of submitting and evaluating course educational materials in the information system; the results of a survey of students on their satisfaction with the work in Canvas are analysed. The scientific novelty lies in presenting the structure of the course “Russian Language and Culture of Speech”, addressed to future linguists, and the point system for its evaluation in order to place it in the Canvas information system. As a result, the confirmation of the course effectiveness was obtained and the recommendations for its improvement were formulated.
