Resource Potential of Elective Courses in Training a Future Foreign Language Teacher to Design Programmes of Education, Instruction and Socialisation of Atypical Schoolchildren

Abstract. The purpose of the study is to identify the resource potential of university-wide elective courses in training future foreign language teachers to design programmes of instruction, education, and socialisation of atypical schoolchildren. The paper presents the experience of the authoring team in expanding teachers’ methodological training for education and development of students with health limitations (HL). The researchers substantiate theoretical approaches to the formation of teachers’ specialised skills of designing adapted instruction and education programmes. The paper presents the results of the research work of teachers from the Institute of Foreign Languages of the Moscow City University on the formation of the specified skills in the framework of university-wide elective courses. Scientific novelty of the study lies in providing a theoretical confirmation and description of approaches and principles of preparing a modern teacher for interaction with atypical schoolchildren; foreign language teachers’ specialised methodological skills of designing a personalised educational foreign language environment for atypical schoolchildren are substantiated and identified. As a result, the content and didactic cycles (stages) of the study on the formation of teachers’ specialised skills of designing didactic support for an atypical student in the setting of elective courses have been developed.
