Requirements for the Content of Spiritual and Moral Education: Classical Approach

Abstract. The paper aims to reveal peculiarities of spiritual and moral education conditioned by its essential characteristics and associated with specificity of the modern sociocultural and educational situation. Relying on the classical approach, the author identifies value foundations of spiritual and moral education, describes principles for choosing the content of spiritual and moral education in accordance with requirements of the standards. Scientific originality of the study involves identifying peculiarities of spiritual and moral education conditioned by its value and meaningful nature and represented through its content. The conducted research allows concluding that spiritual and moral education includes two aspects - external (cultural phenomena students get acquainted with) and internal (values students should adopt). The research findings are as follows: the author ascertains the basic principles and requirements for choosing the content of spiritual and moral education (value-based orientation, conformity to nature, cultural conformity, dialogism).
