Classification of Extra-Linguistic Knowledge Taking into Account Adaptation Problems of Foreign Students of Preparatory Department

Abstract. The research objective includes identifying types of extra-linguistic knowledge required to form foreign students’ sociocultural competence. The notion of extra-linguistic knowledge is considered from the viewpoint of communicative, person-oriented activity-based and sociocultural approaches. The role of extra-linguistic knowledge in enhancing foreigners’ adaptation to new educational and sociocultural conditions is revealed. Scientific originality of the study involves a classification of extra-linguistic knowledge taking into account learners’ actual needs. The research findings are as follows: the author proves that the extra-linguistic competence contributes to forming foreign students’ sociocultural competence and promotes educational migrants’ cultural adaptation.
