FORMATION OF LEARNERS’ FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMPETENCES IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES AT A TECHNICAL HIGHER EDUCATION ESTABLISHMENT (BY THE EXAMPLE OF AN ADVERTISING VIDEO)

Abstract. The article examines general cultural, general professional and universal competences within the disciplines "Foreign Language", "Foreign Language (Professional)" and "Professional Foreign Language" for technical specialities of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree level at a non-linguistic higher education establishment. The authors introduce a technique to work with advertising video materials and propose a series of related exercises. The paper provides recommendations concerning the choice of an advertising video for educational purposes, discusses advantages and shortcomings of advertising videos as authentic information sources in foreign language teaching.
