CRISIS OF POWER IN KABARDINO-BALKARIA IN AUGUST 1991

Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H. M. Berbekov in Nalchik
Abstract. The article is devoted to investigating influence of 1991 coup on the ethno-political situation in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. The paper analyzes the role of the national factor in hot political confrontation, which resulted in crisis of power. The authors for the first time formulate and justify a thesis that the events of August 1991 stimulated consolidation of already disloyal to each other national movements of Kabardino-Balkarian "titular" nationalities that led to public demand for resignation of high-ranking republican officials.
