Abstract. The article analyzes peculiarities of the social memory phenomenon functioning in urban sociocultural space, examines mechanisms to translate and transform it. It is shown that social memory in the post-modernity epoch not only performs the function of the community and the individual’s identification but is a valuable source of commercialized images. The author justifies the necessity to preserve memorable objects in urban space under the conditions of the modern globalizing world.
