Abstract. Using a wide range of sources the article examines the choice of military chiefs for educational institutions of the People’s Commissariat for Education within the Altai Territory in the years of the Great Patriotic War. The author describes forms and methods used by departments of education and military commissariats to improve military knowledge, general educational level and educational-methodical competence of military chiefs.
