MODERNIZATION OF CHELYABINSK BRANCH OF THE SOUTH URAL RAILWAY IN 1956-1991

Abstract. The article examines the problem of modernizing Chelyabinsk branch of the South Ural railway on the basis of electrification. The branch modernization was associated with intensive industrial and agricultural development of the South Ural and Kazakhstan regions, realization of the General Plan of Railway Electrification. The author shows modernization of the South Ural railway as a complex technical and economic process of railway development aimed to increase its traffic capacity.
