PERSECUTIONS OF THE BUDDHIST CLERGY AND BELIEVERS IN THE BURYAT-MONGOLIAN ASSR DURING ANTI-RELIGIOUS CAMPAIGN OF THE INITIAL PERIOD OF AGRICULTURE COLLECTIVIZATION

Abstract. The article on the basis of regional archival materials considers persecutions of the Buddhist clergy and believers in the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR during anti-religious campaign conducted in the initial period of agriculture collectivization. The author identifies forms and methods of the anti-religious campaign, argues that it was of clearly observable repressive nature, the situation was worsened by facts of harsh administrative despotism at the local level. The paper concludes that the repressions against believers served as an instrument to destroy spiritual foundations of the self-employed countryside.
