Abstract. The article examines backgrounds and components of the joint project of the architect Adolf Rading and the painter Oskar Schlemmer - Doctor Erich Rabe’s house in Zwenkau. The author discovers the basic esthetic principles of the "Neue Bauen" architectural school in the aspect of interaction with the key trends of European avant-garde, analyzes the modernistic conception of a residential building as a universal synthetic artwork.
