FAIENCE ICONOSTASES IN ORTHODOX CHURCHES: HISTORY AND MODERNITY

Abstract. The article examines the history of faience iconostases origin in Russia at the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century. The authors describe the largest ceramic enterprises such as Imperial Porcelain Factory in Saint-Petersburg, Gardner Porcelain Factory, Kiev-Mezhegorsky Faience Factory, Auerbach Faience Factory, ceramic enterprise "M. S. Kuznetsov’s Partnership". The paper identifies peculiarities of faience iconostases production and usage and shows that they are distinguished by solidity, beauty and grace. The researchers analyze architectural and layout peculiarities and symbolism of faience iconostases in temples of the Altai Territory.
