POLITICS AND BIOLOGICAL DISCOURSE (ON ONE OF THE SOURCES OF "THE COLLAPSE OF HUMANISM" BY BLOK)

Abstract. The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of two most important sources on the theory of Russian avant-garde: the book by Nikolay Punin and Evgeny Poletaev "Against Civilization" (1918) and the policy article by Alexander Blok "The Collapse of Humanism" (1919). Special attention is paid to the problem of convergence of "artistic" and political discourses: the focus of the author’s attention is on the use of biological metaphors by the Russian theorists, which largely determined their rhetoric as to interpretation of the revolution, the Communist project and the avant-garde movement.
