HUMANISM IN THE CONTEXT OF WORLD HISTORY AND CULTURE

Abstract. Defining the phenomenon of humanism the article characterizes it as a cultural phenomenon, presents points of view on definition of this notion in literature, gives a classification of the main forms of humanism, and singles out humanism of principles and humanism of ideals. At the same time humanism is examined as a system of social relations. The work shows that such approach creates a theoretical and methodological basis for consideration of humanism as a fact of cultures, thereby it becomes possible to reveal its material foundations, to explain existence of a great number of its definitions by diversity of social relations, in which it manifests itself.
