Abstract. The article examines the formation and development of Ural choral performing tradition in the middle of the XX century. The paper identifies the role of Alexander Vasilevich Preobrazhensky, the graduate of Synodal school, in the formation and consolidation of Ural choral performing school, a brilliant choral tradition of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. The author describes the basic conditions of training professional choirmasters at the Choral Conducting Department of the Ural Conservatoire named after M. P. Mussorgsky. The researcher emphasizes the importance of teaching and choirmaster activity of conservatoire graduates as the successors and propagators of Synodal school traditions all over the country.
