MODERN FESTIVAL PRACTICES OF THE REPUBLIC OF ALTAI: THE PROBLEM OF SYMBOLIZATION OF THE ETHNICITY OF THE ALTAIANS

Abstract. The article analyzes the symbolic reproduction of the ethnic identity of the indigenous Turkic-speaking population of the Altai Republic in festival practices. The festival is regarded as an element of the cultural memory of an ethnic group, a way of constructing social ties. Two stages in the development of folkloric practices of the Altaians are singled out. The conclusion is made that the festival at the present stage of development is a way of existence of an ethnic group in the modernized community.
