UNIVERSITY INTELLIGENTSIA IN THE ROLE OF "THE THIRD POWER" IN THE EARLY 20S OF THE XX CENTURY (BY THE MATERIALS OF THE DON, KUBAN AND STAVROPOL REGIONS)

Abstract. The article deals with the role of the university intelligentsia as "the third power" in the early 1920s by the materials of the Don, Kuban and Stavropol regions. It is shown that the intellectual elite of the region tried to create programs for the transformation of the society, including conceptual notions about the society and the strategies of development. The author substantiates that the reason for the intelligentsia’s performance in the role of "the third power" was that a process of some reassessment of values took place during the transition to the NEP.
