A comparative analysis of the main denominations is carried out on the criterion of their correspondence to the processes of social transformation. The notion "religious diversification" is introduced. The authors explain the reasons for the strengthening of the Russian Orthodox Church as an ideological actor. Particular emphasis is placed on the fact that at present the fulfillment of its functions by the religion at the level of the society as a whole is impossible outside the established religious social institutions.
