THE RUSSIAN-INDIAN RELATIONS: FROM "THE PAUSE" IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 1990S TO "STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP" OF THE BEGINNING OF THE XXI CENTURY

Abstract. At present Russia is increasing cooperation with India, which requires the study of the existing experience. The purpose of the article is to identify the process of interaction between the two countries in 1991-2016. In this connection the paper analyses the legal framework of bilateral contacts and ties, studies their main achievements, problems, and prospective directions. The author comes to the conclusion that during the period under review the solid foundation was laid for the functioning of the Russian-Indian relations, which will serve as a stimulus for the development of the Russian economy and will give depth to the strategic alliance.
