Abstract. The article examines the socio-cultural circumstances of the establishment of market regulators in the system of national education, the consequences of which are: the loss of the prescriptive modality of pedagogical activity, the pluralization of the institutional structure of the national school, the differentiation of the unified teachers’ community. Changes in the key social functions of the educator are discussed in the context of the liberalization of authoritarian educational strategies. New professional competences of the teacher, actual in the modern educational space, are revealed.
