REAL AND VIRTUAL BUDDHISM IN THE TERRITORY OF THE SOUTH OF RUSSIA

Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of the state of modern Buddhism in the territory of the South of Russia. The authors show that over the past 25 years Russian Buddhism, destroyed practically during the Soviet era, has been actively restored first in the territory of Kalmykia and the Astrakhan region, and later in the territory of the Stavropol, Krasnodar Krai and Rostov region in the form of dharma centers of various Buddhist subschools. Currently Buddhism has moved into a new space - virtual, where it has an active religious activity. An attempt has been made to compare two manifestations of Buddhism in the South of Russia and to outline common features.
