CONDITIONS OF WORKERS’ LABOUR AT FISHERY OF NORTH WESTERN SIBERIA AT THE TURN OF THE XIX-XX CENTURIES

Abstract. The article describes the natural, social-economic, technical and everyday conditions of workers’ labour in the fishing sands of Tobolsk North at the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century. A conclusion is drawn about difficult working conditions at fishery, which led to repeated conflicts between the owners of fishing industry and hired workers. The paper examines attempts taken by the local authorities to improve the situation of workers engaged in fishing, establish regular sanitary supervision of the sands. The relationship of insanitary working conditions and high morbidity and mortality among workers is shown.
