Abstract. The article is devoted to studying the essence of the phenomenon of "artistic image" in musical art. The paper substantiates the specificity of the artistic image in music, defines the basic and secondary means of its creation. Along with the study of artistic images essence of musical works, their leading functions are defined and analyzed. The author focuses on the study of the problem of understanding the artistic images of musical art by the recipient, analyzes the phenomenon of "dialogue" between the composer and the listener, and substantiates the categories of the objective and subjective in the system of perception of artistic musical images.
